Diobol

Pitane, a coastal Aeolian city on the Aegean shore of Mysia, struck its own fractional silver throughout the fourth century while nominally subject first to Persian satrapal authority and later to shifting Macedonian influence. The city's coinage was never prolific, and diobols from this mint appear rarely in major collections. Whether production was interrupted by the campaigns of Alexander or simply reflected a small civic economy is not settled in the literature.
