| Obverse description | Sphinx seated to right within a dotted border, the mythological creature depicted with wings folded against its body and right forepaw raised. The figure is rendered in a robust archaic style characteristic of early fifth-century BC Aegean coinage, with fine detail visible in the feathering of the wings and the muscular haunches. This mill-sail or windmill incuse pattern is a hallmark of early archaic Greek coinage technique, used to displace metal evenly during striking.
