| Obverse description | Helmeted head of Athena facing right, rendered in fine archaic-transitional style. The goddess wears an Attic helmet whose bowl is prominently decorated with the figure of Skylla, depicted as a female bust terminating in a fish or serpent tail. Locks of hair escape beneath the helmet's cheekpieces, framing the face. The field is plain, and no legend appears on this face of the coin. |

| Reverse description | Herakles kneeling to the right, engaged in combat with the Nemean lion in the first of his canonical Labours. The hero grasps the lion's body with both arms in a strangling hold, his muscular form rendered in vigorous relief against a plain concave field. The abbreviated ethnic legend HE appears in Greek characters in the upper field, identifying the issuing city of Herakleia. The composition fills the flan compactly, reflecting the small module of this denomination. |
