| Obverse description | Head of Athena facing right, wearing a crested Attic helmet, rendered in archaic-to-early classical Greek style. The helmet crest is clearly delineated above the brow, and traces of facial features are visible despite significant wear. The effigy is set within a plain circular field, with a control mark Θ (theta) visible in the field, characteristic of Velian small silver coinage. The overall style reflects the influence of Phocaean artistic traditions brought by the city's founders. |

| Reverse description | An owl stands facing, with wings spread open in the heraldic frontal display typical of Velian coinage of this period. The bird's feathering is rendered with fine detail despite the small module of the flan, with each wing extending symmetrically to the sides. The ethnic legend YEΛHΣ (of Velia) is inscribed in Greek characters around the lower portion of the field, identifying the issuing city. The composition follows the iconographic conventions associated with Velian fractional silver, echoing the owl imagery common to Greek coinage of the western Mediterranean. |
