| 背面描述 | Two annulets arranged vertically in the field, struck in shallow incuse against a rayed or striated border that radiates outward from the center toward the coin's edge, all contained within a circular incuse depression. The abbreviated ethnic inscription appears in Greek characters flanking the annulets. The incuse technique is consistent with the archaic coinage conventions of Magna Graecia. |

The original Sybaris was destroyed by Kroton in 510 BC, its citizens reportedly driven out and the city flooded by diverting the river Krathis over the site. This diobol belongs to the refounded city — Thurii was established on or near the same ground in 444/443 BC under Athenian sponsorship, but the brief re-establishment of Sybaris itself in the 450s produced a small independent coinage before the colonists were expelled once more by the incoming Thurian settlers.
