Popis rubu	Central field features a cross pattée or cross formée, boldly struck and surrounded by pellets or annulets in the angles, a common decorative convention in Iberian medieval coinage. The cross divides the reverse field into four quadrants, each embellished with a small pellet. A circular marginal legend surrounds the central device, reading REX AFOSV, an abbreviated form of Rex Alfonsus, identifying the issuing monarch Afonso II of Portugal. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with the hammered technique. Die engraving is bold but somewhat crude, reflecting the primitive minting standards of the early 13th century.
