Obverse description Central cross pattée positioned above a circular inner border enclosing a stylized design. The legend +AVSONA is disposed around the periphery of the flan between two raised concentric circles, rendered in rough Carolingian majuscules characteristic of early medieval hammered coinage. The lettering is irregularly spaced, reflecting the hand-cut die technique of the period. The overall layout follows the standard Carolingian denier prototype with the toponym as the principal obverse legend.
