Obverse description Central field displays a stylised castle of three towers with an arched gateway, rendered in the Romanesque heraldic tradition characteristic of Castilian coinage; the central keep is flanked by two lower corner towers, each surmounted by battlements. The castle motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, separated from the central device by the beaded border, reads ALF REX CASTELLE in Gothic Latin capitals. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered medieval coinage, with some letters partially off-flan.
