Martin I inherited Majorca as an Aragonese possession — the independent Mallorcan kingdom had been extinguished in 1349 when Pedro IV invaded and absorbed it. These dineros were struck under Aragonese suzerainty, with Martin ruling the island as part of his broader Crown of Aragon domains following the death of his father John I in 1396. His reign ended without a legitimate heir, triggering the Compromise of Caspe in 1412, one of the more consequential succession arbitrations in medieval Iberian history.
