Obverse description Central field displays a stylized sword or sceptre-like device oriented vertically, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend reads IMPVRIΛR, denoting the County of Empuries, introduced by a cross pattée. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, characteristic of hammered billon coinage of the early thirteenth century. The relief is bold but uneven, reflecting the hand-struck technique typical of Catalan feudal mints of this period.
