Reverse description A bold cross pattee dominates the central field, its arms extending nearly to the border and dividing the reverse into four quarters. Stars are positioned in the angles of the cross, with two stars in the upper quarters and three stars in the lower quarters, a distinguishing arrangement noted in the type designation. The surrounding circular legend reads +TOLLETA, the Latin name for Toledo, the mint city. The design is executed in the rough, vigorous style typical of Castilian hammered billon dineros of the late 12th and early 13th centuries. The flan is irregular with slight weakness at the edges due to the hand-striking technique.
