The legend INPERATOR (Emperor) is distributed in the outer field between the beaded inner circle and the irregular toothed border, referencing Alfonso VII's imperial title proclaimed in 1135. The lettering is rendered in a characteristic Romanesque lapidary script, with individual letters separated by the arms of the cross. The overall composition is typical of twelfth-century Castilian and Leonese hammered coinage. |
