Obverse description Central cross pattee occupying the majority of the field, surmounted by a crown or imperial emblem at the top. The design is characteristic of the Romanesque hammered coinage of Alfonso VII, Emperor of All Spain, with a bold, crude relief typical of 12th-century Iberian minting practice. The Latin legend SVPER REX encircles the central device, referencing the monarch's imperial title. The flan is irregular and shows the characteristic rough edges of hand-struck medieval coinage.
