Obverse description A passant lion facing right occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The lion is rendered in the crude but vigorous Romanesque style characteristic of Leonese coinage of the early twelfth century. The surrounding legend reads ADEFONSVS REX, distributed around the inner circle within the outer beaded border. The flan is irregular, and the strike shows typical characteristics of hammered medieval coinage.
