正面描述 Armored knight in profile, helmeted and bearing a shield, couched lance raised, mounted on a horse in full gallop to the right. The letters C, A, and S are distributed across the field, referencing Castile. The design is rendered in the bold, simplified relief characteristic of Leonese hammered billon coinage of the late 12th century.

附加信息

Alfonso IX came to the León throne in 1188, the same year he convened the Cortes of León — widely recognized as the first parliamentary assembly in European history, predating the English Parliament by decades. The dinero coinage struck at his accession served partly to assert his independent rule against the persistent pressure of his father-in-law, Alfonso VIII of Castile, with whom he spent much of his reign in open conflict.

Billon composition varies noticeably across specimens of this type, reflecting the monetary instability of the period and inconsistent alloy control at Leonese mints.
