Obverse description A stylised castle of three towers enclosed within an octolobe inner border, the central tower taller and flanked by two shorter lateral towers, each rendered with vertical lines suggesting battlements. The Burgos mint mark appears in the field below the castle, within a small circular or lozenge-shaped cartouche. A circular Latin legend reading MONETA CASTELLE surrounds the octolobe, running between the inner and outer beaded borders. The design is struck on an irregular flan characteristic of hammered medieval coinage.
