Obverse description Central device depicting a triple-towered Gothic castle with an arched gateway and portcullis, rendered in high relief in the medieval heraldic tradition. The castle occupies the majority of the coin's field, with its battlements and flanking towers clearly delineated. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading MONETA CASTELLE. The flan is irregular, as characteristic of hammered medieval coinage of the Castilian series.
