Reverse description The reverse displays the quartered arms of Castile and Leon within a plain cross that divides the field into four quarters. In the upper-left and lower-right quarters appears a turreted castle with three towers, the emblem of Castile; in the upper-right and lower-left quarters appears a passant lion, the emblem of Leon. The heraldic charges are rendered in a bold, somewhat schematic style typical of hammered billon coinage of Alfonso X's reign. The design fills the flan to its edges with no surrounding legend on the reverse.
