Obverse description The entire field is occupied by the royal name and title inscribed in six lines of Latin text, arranged in a compressed, cross-influenced layout typical of Castilian billon dineros of the mid-13th century. The lettering, struck in relief in a characteristic Gothic-transitional style, reads ALFONSVS REX CASTELLE ET LEGIONIS. Small cross-like ornaments divide or punctuate the inscription, a hallmark of Alfonso X's monetary issues. The flan is irregular and slightly curved, consistent with hammered coinage of the period.
