Vigraharaja IV ruled the Chahamana dynasty at its cultural apex, and is as well known for his literary output — he authored the Sanskrit drama Lalitavigraharaja — as for his military campaigns pushing Chauhan authority deep into the Gangetic plain. His reign saw the capture of Delhi from the Tomaras, a conquest that set the political stage for the later Ghurid invasions that would end the dynasty entirely within a generation of his death.
Deyell's classification places this type within a transitional phase of northwestern Indian gold coinage, where bull-and-horseman types inherited from earlier Pratihara-influenced issues were still in active use.
