The Sajid dynasty ruled Azerbaijan and parts of Armenia as nominal vassals of the Abbasid caliphate, and their coinage reflects that dependency precisely — governors cited the reigning caliph as a matter of political obligation, not piety. Al-Muqtadir's reign (908–932) was among the most turbulent of the late Abbasid period, marked by repeated depositions and restorations. This dinar was struck in the final year of that reign; al-Muqtadir was killed in battle against a rival faction in October 932. The citation of Abu'l-'Abbas as heir-apparent pins the striking to a narrow window before that dynastic collapse.
