Dinar - Stefan Uroš V Horse

Stefan Uroš V inherited the vast Serbian Empire built by his father Dušan but lacked the political authority to hold it together. Within years of his accession the great regional lords — Vukašin, Jovan Uglješa, the Mrnjavčević brothers — were operating as effectively independent rulers, and Uroš himself increasingly a figurehead. He died in 1371 without an heir, ending the Nemanjić dynasty entirely. The horse-type dinars associated with his reign were struck across multiple minting centers operating under fractured authority, which accounts for the considerable die variation documented within Jovanovic's classification.
