The image follows the Byzantine Pantocrator iconographic tradition commonly employed on medieval Serbian coinage. Abbreviated Latin lettering appears in the field to either side of the figure. The strike is characteristic of hammered medieval production, with the design occupying most of the irregular flan. |

These small dinars were struck during the reign of Stefan Uroš V, who inherited a Serbian empire already fragmenting after his father Dušan's death in December 1355. Dušan had crowned himself Emperor of the Serbs and Greeks in 1346, but the overextended realm never cohered under his weaker successor. The continued use of Dušan's iconographic types under Uroš V — hence the attribution confusion common in the literature — reflects a deliberate claim to legitimacy rather than administrative inertia.
By 1371, Serbian power collapsed at the Battle of Maritsa, effectively ending independent coinage of this type.
