Additional information

Stefan Uroš III Dečanski came to power after his father Stefan Uroš II Milutin had him blinded and exiled to Constantinople — a punishment that proved incomplete, as Dečanski recovered partial sight and eventually seized the throne. His reign produced the decisive Battle of Velbazhd in 1330, where Serbian forces crushed the Bulgarian army and killed Tsar Michael Asen III, briefly making Serbia the dominant power in the western Balkans. The dinar series issued under his name reflects a mint operation directly tied to the silver mines of Brskovo and Novo Brdo.
