| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse depicts the king Skandagupta as a standing royal effigy in high relief, shown frontally in a dynamic three-quarter pose, adorned with elaborate jewelry including a prominent necklace and ornate headdress with a nimbus or halo behind the head. The king holds a large bird, likely a Garuda or cock, aloft in his raised left hand, while his right hand is lowered at his side; a long bow or staff is positioned to the left of the figure. The royal figure is depicted with a muscular torso, draped lower garment, and footwear consistent with Gupta artistic conventions, with decorative floral or foliate elements in the field to the left. The coin is struck on an irregular flan with characteristic Gupta hammered technique, producing bold, sculptural relief typical of the finest imperial Gupta gold coinage. |
