| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing draped bust of Shapur I (Shahpur I) rendered in the characteristic Sasanian royal style, surmounted by a mural tiara topped with a korymbos — the distinctive globe of hair enclosed in a silk covering — and adorned with a long ear flap falling behind the neck. The effigy exhibits the fine chasing typical of early Sasanian gold coinage, with the ruler's facial features and drapery rendered with considerable detail. An encircling legend in Inscriptional Pahlavi identifies the king by name and royal title, occupying the field around the bust. |
