Obverse description Bust of Shapur I facing right, wearing an elaborate mural crown surmounted by a large korymbos (hair globe) and adorned with a diadem, with long curled beard and pearl necklace; the king is depicted in characteristic Sasanian royal regalia with richly draped shoulders. The effigy is enclosed within a beaded border, with a circular Pahlavi legend surrounding the portrait in the field reading the royal titulature.
