Obverse description The obverse presents a dense multi-line Arabic epigraphic field typical of Mamluk gold coinage, struck in bold relief on a plain, slightly irregular flan. Five horizontal lines of Arabic thuluth script fill the central field, reading the royal titulature of Sultan Baybars II al-Mansuri: al-Mansuri, al-Sultan al-Malik, Rukn al-Dunya wa al-Din, Baybars, Qasim Amir al-Muminin. The legends are set within a plain inner circle, with a raised marginal border enclosing the field. The script is deeply struck and characteristic of early eighth-century AH Mamluk die-cutting, with some letters showing typical hammered-coin die shift.
