The coin exhibits the irregular flan typical of hand-struck Islamic dinars of the 5th century AH, with slightly ragged edges. A concentric marginal legend in Arabic script encircles the central area, separated by a linear border. The Shahada and honorific titles for the Ghaznavid sultan Mawdud and the Abbasid caliph are typically inscribed in accordance with standard Ghaznavid dinar typology.
