Jani Beg died in 1357, the same year this dinar was struck, ending the longest stable reign the Golden Horde had seen in a generation. What followed was a catastrophic succession crisis — within two decades, more than twenty khans would claim the throne in what chroniclers called the "Great Troubles," the Bolshaya Zamyatnya. Coins from Amul in this terminal year of his reign sit at the precise hinge of that collapse.
Amul, on the Oxus, was a commercially active mint whose output reflected Central Asian trade routes rather than the Pontic steppe heartland of Horde power. The Zeno-catalogued specimen for this type is among the few confirmed attributions for this mint-year combination.
