Reverse description Central field filled with multiple horizontal lines of Mamluk Arabic script presenting the Shahada and Abbasid Caliph's name, following the standard Mamluk dinar formulary. The field reads the Islamic profession of faith and acknowledges the reigning Abbasid caliph as a mark of legitimacy. An inner plain linear border separates the central legend from the elaborate outer marginal band of scrolling or foliate arabesque decoration, also rendered in Arabic script incorporating the mint name Dimashq (Damascus) and the date. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered Mamluk gold coinage. The lettering is in a bold, raised Naskh-influenced script consistent with late 13th-century Syrian Mamluk monetary production.
