| Beschrijving keerzijde | Full-length standing portrait of Queen Buran in royal regalia, wearing a circular crown topped by a crescent and globus. The right hand is placed upon the breast in a formal gesture, while the left hand holds a dagger. Two floral ornaments flank the figure at either side, echoing the hair bunches of the obverse. Two stars and crescent devices appear at either side of the head, and a Inscriptional Pahlavi legend encircles the design; a single pellet appears outside the border at the one o'clock position. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Buran — more formally Purandokht — was one of only two women to rule the Sasanian Empire, ascending to the throne following the chaos that consumed the empire after Khosrow II's execution in 628. Her reign lasted barely two years, and the dynastic instability that bookended it meant mint output was erratic and geographically inconsistent. Gold issues attributable to her are rare enough that individual specimens regularly prompt scholarly debate over mint attribution.
She died, likely by assassination, in 631 or 632 — the same window this coin was struck.
