Beschrijving keerzijde A Zoroastrian fire altar with flowing ribbons occupies the center of the field, with flames rising from the altar's basin in which a royal bust facing right is depicted. Two attendant figures flank the altar symmetrically, each wearing a plain crown with korymbos and standing in profile, serving as guardians of the sacred fire in the traditional Sasanian numismatic iconography.

Aanvullende informatie

Ardashir II ruled for just four years before being deposed by the nobility — ancient sources suggest he was forcibly removed and blinded, the standard Sasanian method of disqualifying a rival from the throne without killing him outright. His coinage is consequently scarce, and the Ostenl mint attribution places this piece among a regionally distinct group identified through die studies rather than any explicit mint mark on the coin itself.
