Obverse description Central field contains the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) in three lines of Kufic Arabic script: 'There is no god but God alone, He has no associate.' The central inscription is enclosed within a circular marginal legend running along the inner border, containing a Quranic verse (9:33) attesting to the mission of the Prophet. The coin is entirely epigraphic with no figural imagery, reflecting the aniconic reform coinage introduced under Caliph Abd al-Malik. The script is angular early Kufic, precisely struck on a slightly irregular flan typical of Umayyad hammered gold coinage.
