Reverse description Central field displays a multi-line Arabic legend in bold Naskh script reading 'Duriba Utrar' (struck at Otrar) in the upper portion, with the AH date 740 (corresponding to 1340 CE) inscribed in the lower exergual area in Eastern Arabic numerals. The mint name and date are characteristic of Chagatai monetary production at the important Transoxianan mint of Otrar. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-cut hammered blanks typical of this period and region.
