| Obverse description | Central field bears the Shahada inscription in three lines of Kufic Arabic script: 'There is no god but Allah alone, He has no associate.' A circular marginal legend in Kufic script runs within a beaded border around the perimeter of the coin, containing a Quranic verse (Quran 9:33). The script is bold and angular, characteristic of early Abbasid epigraphic style, with no figural imagery. |
