Obverse description Central field contains multiple horizontal lines of Arabic religious and dynastic inscriptions arranged in a tiraz-style layout typical of Abbasid gold coinage. The legends include the kalima (profession of faith) and the name of the Caliph al-Muttaqi, executed in angular Kufic script. A marginal legend in Kufic script encircles the central inscriptions, running along the outer border of the coin. The overall design is entirely epigraphic, with no figural or geometric motifs, consistent with orthodox Abbasid numismatic convention. The flan is irregular, as is characteristic of hammered Islamic gold dinars of this period.
