Obverse description Hammered gold dinar struck during the reign of Abbasid Caliph al-Muqtafi (530–555 AH). The obverse field is densely filled with multiple concentric registers of Arabic Kufic and thuluth script arranged in horizontal lines within a circular border of repeated marginal legend. The central field bears the Shahada and the caliph's name and title, all executed in fine hand-cut dies. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and slightly uneven strike typical of Abbasid hammered gold coinage of the 6th century AH.
