| Obverse description | Central field bears the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) arranged in multiple horizontal lines: the declaration of divine unity in the innermost area, framed by a circular inner marginal legend containing the Quranic verse of prophethood (Quran 9:33), and an outer marginal legend comprising a Quranic excerpt (Quran 30:4-5) proclaiming the joy of the believers. The entire composition is executed in angular Kufic script on a plain gold field, consistent with the aniconic tradition of Abbasid coinage. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, as is characteristic of hammered Islamic gold dinars of this period. |
