Obverse description Central field bears three lines of Arabic Kufic inscription arranged in horizontal registers, reading the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada): 'There is no god but God alone, He has no partner.' A marginal legend encircling the field contains the Quranic verse from Surat al-Tawba (9:33) affirming the prophethood of Muhammad. The overall design follows the purely epigraphic, aniconic tradition established by the Umayyad reform coinage of 696–697 AD and continued under the Abbasids. The coin bears a small drilled hole, visible near the lower edge, indicating former use as a pendant or jewelry piece. The flat hammered flan exhibits slightly irregular edges characteristic of hand-struck Abbasid gold coinage.
