Obverse lettering al-imam / la ilah / illa allah / al-mansur billah bism allah duriba hadha'l-dinar bi'l-mahdiyya shahr ramadan fi sana sab' wa thalathin wa thalathmi'a
(Translation: Field: "the Imam, no god but God, al-Mansur billah." Margin: "in the name of God, this dinar was struck in al-Mahdiyya the month of Ramadan in the year seven and thirty and three hundred.")
Reverse description Aniconic reverse bearing three lines of angular Kufic script in the central field reading 'isma'il / muhammad / rasul allah / amir al-mu'minin', enclosed within a double circular border. The marginal legend carries the Quranic citation from Sura 9 (al-Tawba), verse 33, rendered in continuous Kufic script around the periphery of the coin. The lettering exhibits the deeply struck, angular character typical of early Fatimid gold coinage, with a flat, unornamented field. The irregular flan shape is consistent with hand-struck medieval Islamic gold coinage produced by the al-Mahdiyya mint. The reverse inscription affirms both Prophetic legitimacy and the Imam's political authority as Commander of the Faithful.
