| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse presents the characteristic aniconic design of Umayyad Andalusian coinage, composed entirely of Arabic Kufic script arranged in horizontal lines within a central circular field. The inner legend occupies three or four lines and contains the shahada and mint/date formula. A thin inner circle separates the central field from the marginal legend, which runs continuously around the circumference and contains the Quranic basmala and striking information including the mint of al-Andalus and the Hijri year. The whole composition is framed by a plain outer border, typical of gold dinars struck at Madinat al-Zahra under the Umayyad caliphs. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse likewise bears an entirely epigraphic composition in Kufic Arabic script, with the central field divided into horizontal lines naming the Caliph al-Hakam II al-Mustansir Billah and his hajib, preceded by the basmala. A raised inner circle ring encloses the central inscription and separates it from the surrounding marginal legend, which carries the Quranic verse from Surat al-Tawba (9:33) attesting to the mission of the Prophet Muhammad. The outer border frames the entire design, conforming to the refined epigraphic style standardised at the Madinat al-Zahra mint during the reign of al-Hakam II. |
