| Reverse description | The reverse presents five lines of Arabic legend arranged horizontally across the central field within a plain inner circle, containing the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) and the name of the Abbasid caliph acknowledging Mamluk legitimacy, along with mint and date formulae. A marginal legend runs within the outer border. The bold, deeply struck Kufic script is characteristic of Mamluk gold coinage of the mid-thirteenth century, with pellet separators visible between lines. |
