Obverse description Hammered gold dinar struck in the name of Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad VIII. The central field is dominated by a raised square cartouche containing multiple lines of Maghribi Arabic script bearing the Shahada and the ruler's name and title. The area between the square and the coin's irregular round border features additional Arabic legend in the outer margin. The overall style is characteristic of late Zayyanid coinage from Tlemcen, with bold, densely packed calligraphy and a beaded inner border framing the square.
