Obverse description Central field displays three horizontal lines of Arabic Kufic script arranged within an unbordered central legend area, with an additional line of text below. The inscription contains the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada). A circular marginal legend in Arabic Kufic script runs around the entire periphery of the coin, separated from the central area by a beaded inner border. The strike is characteristic of early Aghlabid hammered gold coinage, with a slightly irregular planchet and flatness typical of the period.
