Bradbury Wilkinson printed this note during a politically sensitive period for Iraq — the Ba'ath Party had retaken power in 1968 and was consolidating control over state institutions, including the central bank. The ¼ Dinar was the lowest denomination in the series, and notes at this level typically absorbed the hardest daily use; worn examples are far more common than worn examples of the higher denominations from the same issue.
BW's New Malden facility handled a substantial share of Middle Eastern government printing through the 1960s and 70s, before the firm was absorbed into De La Rue in 1990. The watermark is the sole mechanical security feature on this note — no thread, no latent image.
