Reverse description The celebrated silphion plant, the prized medicinal and culinary export that formed the economic foundation of Cyrene, depicted frontally in full botanical detail: a ribbed central stalk terminates in a large globular seed-head at the top, with two pairs of lateral branches spreading symmetrically, each terminating in smaller globular fruit clusters. The Greek ethnic legend KYPA is divided across the lower field, with K and Y to the left of the stalk and P and A to the right, rendered in clear archaic-style Greek characters. A control monogram appears in the upper left field.
