| Obverse description | Youthful bare head of Apollo-Carneius facing right, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with curling locks of hair adorned by a small Ammoniac horn above the brow, identifying the deity with the Libyan god Ammon. The facial features are sensitively modelled with a straight nose, slightly parted lips, and a strong jaw, the portrait filling the flan with commanding presence. The hair is depicted in rich, layered curls falling behind the neck, with a wreath or taenia element partly visible amid the coiffure. |
