| Reverse description | A silphium plant occupies the central field, depicted frontally with its characteristic branching stalks, heart-shaped leaves, and a globular seed head at the apex — the emblematic plant of Cyrene and a primary source of the city's wealth. To the left of the plant the legend KYPA is inscribed, and to the right KE, together forming the abbreviated ethnic KYRAKE (for Kyrene). A crab is visible to the lower right of the plant, serving as an additional civic symbol. The composition is dynamic and naturalistic, consistent with the artistic conventions of Cyrenaean coinage of the period. |
