| Beschrijving voorzijde | Full-length frontal effigy of King Kanishka I standing, depicted in traditional Kushan royal attire including a heavy belted tunic, trousers, and boots, with flames emanating from his shoulders as a divine attribute. The king extends his right hand over a sacrificial altar, while his left hand holds a long spear or trident resting on the ground. The Bactrian legend ÞAO NANO ÞAO KANHÞKI KOÞANO, meaning 'King of Kings, Kanishka the Kushan,' runs around the field in the characteristic script of the Kushan chancery. The die work is executed in the robust, frontal Kushan artistic tradition, with deeply incised lettering visible despite the coin's heavily worn and corroded surfaces. |
